With the upcoming vote for a new Mayor and council set for tomorrow, residents of the community of Lax Kw'alaams received a final update on the work of the Current Council last week.
The document providing for an extensive snap shot of some of the key issues for the community north of Prince Rupert over the last year.
Among some of the themes up for review, claims into the Nine Tribes' territory, including the ongoing dispute over Nasoga Gulf and the plans from the Nisga'a Nation for an LNG facility there
A project opposed by Lax Kw'alaams, which states is a project that is being planned on their territory without their permission.
Other notes notes of interest from the Report, include updates on new infrastructure for the community, and ongoing work on Housing, both in Lax Kw'alaams and in Prince Rupert
Economic Development themes include the purchase of a number of properties in Prince Rupert and plans to expand on those real estate holdings. The Business Development group has also been investigating the purchase of land along the Skeena River and in Terrace
The report also notes of the impact of large industrial groups in the Prince Rupert area, included on the list Trigon, Wolverine Terminals, SAAM Towage, Raymont Logistics, Pembina Pipeline corporation.
The documentation noting of the flow through financial benefits that Lax Kw'alaams receives from those industrial groups.
Lax Kw'alaams investments and work in the forestry and fishing sectors. also gain a review, as does their participation in a number of current industrial projects in the Prince Rupert area.
Education, Health Care, Housing and Community governance themes also provide a glimpse into the many areas that Lax Kw'alaams officials provide services towards in the community.
The document which you can review here, provides as strong overview as to how much Lax Kw'alaams is involved in the local economy, as well as how it is benefitting from industrial growth in the region and continues to build on its investments in Prince Rupert.
