City of Prince Rupert seeks comment from public on Liquor licence amendment referral for Port City Spirits

Port City Spirits on Fraser Street is seeking
a Liquor Licence Amendent
Port City Spirits, the Distillery on Fraser Street which opened its doors in August of 2023 has approached the Liquor and Cannabis Licensing Branch to seek an amendment to the licence for a hospitality lounge  area endorsement.

As part of that process, the City of Prince Rupert has been forwarded the referral and is now seeking comment from those who believe that they may be impacted by the amendment.

The background towards the Amendment request outlines what Port City Spirits is seeking:

The location of the lounge would be at 801 Fraser Street, with hours of operation being Sunday to Thursday from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 12:00 pm am to 2:00 am.

The occupancy is 103 persons (comprised of the capacity of 36 for one service area and 67 for the other service area).

As for the City's requirements related to the proposed amendment to the licence:

The City of Prince Rupert is inviting comment from the public on this application. Comments may by made, in writing, to the Director of Corporate & Legislative Services (Corporate Officer) by email at rosamaria.miller@princerupert.ca, or by mail (or drop-off) to City Hall at 424 Third Avenue, Prince Rupert, BC, on or before 4:00 pm Monday, April 22, 2024.

City Council may consider the comments and application at the Regular Meeting of Council Monday, April 22, 2024, at 7:00 pm.

Those who may require more information related to the process are asked to contact City Hall during regular hours of business, Monday - Friday 9:30 am - 4:30 pm, or by calling Administration at 250-627-1781.

The public notice was first posted to the City Website on Tuesday and relayed through the city's social media stream today.

The timing of the request for amendment would appear to be one in mind, with the upcoming cruise tourism season about to launch later this spring.

The original licence application referral process of last year made for some controversy and a few deferrals over that period,  with some in the community questioning its proximity to a Child care facility, as well as a number of other social concerns.

Whether those concerns return, or new ones are raised will be determined through the volume of comment that the city receives up until April 22nd.
