Slubowski splits the weekend load for Western Michigan Broncos

Coach Andy Murray gave Prince Rupert's Frank Slubowski the night off on Friday evening, the first time that has happened since Slubowski's freshman season in Bronco colours

Slubowski watched the first of two games against rival Michigan State over the weekend. With Lukas Hafner making his first collegiate start for the Broncos, earning a 2-0 shutout over the visiting Spartans.

Murray, who hasn't been very happy with the play of his entire team over the last few weeks, suggested he would make his Saturday decision based on the play of the Bronco's on Friday night.

But, when Western Michigan took to the ice for the second game of the two game series, it was a familiar name in the nets, with Frank Slubowski receiving the nod for the Saturday night series wrap up.

By the time the final horn sounded on Saturday, the PRMHA grad made a game high 28 saves, 10 of them on Michigan State power plays as he led the Broncos to a 4-1 victory over their cross state rivals. The only goal of the 29 shots coming at the 7 minute mark of the final period.

The Broncos next see action this weekend when they travel to the famed Notre Dame campus at South Bend, Indiana, set to take part in the Shillelagh Tournament.

Friday night they play Northeastern University, while Saturday they will play either Alabama-Huntsville, or the host Fighting Irish.
