While Prince Rupert hockey fans look ahead to the start of the 2014-15 CIHL season, they're still celebrating the 2013-14 season in Smithers.
And this week CIHL fans of the Central Interior salute their returning champs, as the Smithers Steelheads claimed the league title after some entertaining hockey with the Williams Lake Stampeders.
With a 5-2 victory, the Steelheads took the third and final match up of the CIHL championship round
The series clinching wins bring Smithers their third consecutive CIHL championship, but not before they had to deal with a resilient Williams Lake squad.
The Steelheads took a 1 game to 0 lead into Saturday night, only to see the Stampeders battle back with an impressive 8-4 victory in a fast paced offensive display, a victory which set the stage for Sunday's championship showdown.

With the CIHL championship now in hand, the Steelheads now move on to the Coy Cup championships, the final stop for Senior Men's hockey in British Columbia.
Smithers will find at least two familiar foes when they take to the ice for the Cup championship, which takes place March 11th to 15th.
Williams Lake is hosting this years tournament and joining the Stampeders and Steelheads in Coy Cup action, will be the Terrace River Kings and Fort Nelson Yeti.
