Changing seasons means changing your driving habits and being prepared for anything!

The flip of the calendar into October indicates the definite change from summer into fall, a season that can bring anything in the way of weather conditions for the North Coast.

It also provides a reminder for drivers that the time to start thinking of about winter driving conditions and what's required for safe travel on the highways is now here.

October 1st also signalled the start of Winter Driving rules for highway travel,  five months that require good winter tires for autos and having tire chains handy if you drive a truck.

While North Coast residents may not find themselves on the official notification list for the Highway provisions, anyone making a trip just east of Prince Rupert will want to make note of the requirements.

You can learn more about Winter Driving guidelines from this item from the Ministry of Transportation, the Winter Guidelines remain in effect now through March 31st.

You can access the latest road conditions from our link to the Drive BC portal the quick link to that service can be found in our Notices and Advisories section in the right hand column.

As well, we provide news items related to the conditions on Highways around the region from our Archive page here.
