Charles Hays Secondary was the subject of a brief Hold and Secure situation this morning, as Prince Rupert RCMP investigated on line threats |
Charles Hays Principal Sandra Jones outlined some further background for radio station CFNR this afternoon, noting that during the course of the incident, the students were not in any danger.
However developments related to the situation gave the school cause to make the decision to secure students in their classrooms.
She noted from the days events that rumours, spread through social media and personal texts, caused some alarm for parents in the community.
That situation resulted in parents making calls to the school and at times at volumes that tested the limits of the schools communication system.
School officials will be reviewing their process from today's incident, seeking to learn from events of the day for any future requirements.
As of Friday evening, School District 52 had not yet provided an update, or comment on the incident to its District website.
