The road to February's 2017 All Native Basketball team starts Wednesday for 17 hopeful teams, as three divisions of the popular annual tournament host a qualifying tournament to earn a berth to the Big show.
While the majority of the berths for the February tourney are allocated by invitation based on success in the year previous, this week makes for a last shot for some to claim a remaining placements for three months time.
Competition this week includes teams from the Women's, Intermediate and Seniors Competition, with teams arriving in town from a number of communities on the North Coast and Beyond.
In the Women's Draw teams include Kitkatla, Gitwinksihlkw, Klemtu, Hesquiaht, Kincolith and Port Simpson. First tip for the Women is Wednesday at 5:30 PM.
The Seniors tourney features five teams in town looking to secure a berth for February, with Bella Coola, Gitanyow, Gitwinksihlkw, Greenville and Klemtu taking to the court starting at 7PM on Wednesday.
Earlier this month the organizing committee came to the decision to skip a Qualifying Tournament for the Masters Tournament, with those teams that have paid their entry fee gaining entry in the February tournament.
All of the action this week takes place in the Russell Gamble Gymnasium at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre. The four days of fast paced basketball is launched by the Intermediates tomorrow at 4PM the tourney comes to an end on Saturday evening with the Senior Men's Finals at 5PM
