Rampage back on track with convincing victory over Quesnel

It took the Prince Rupert Rampage one period to get their plan of attack on track, but once they came out of the dressing room for period two of Saturday nights match up with Quesnel the Rhinos were firing on all cylinder.

When the full sixty minutes of scoring and extra curricular activities was in the books the home side had staked its claim to a 6-2 victory in another physical night at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.

Saturday night's game went into the first intermission with the visiting Kangaroos holding a 2-0 lead on the home side, scoring early in the period and late in the opening frame to build their 2 goal margin, however whatever was said in the dressing room during the break certainly resonated with the squad.

The Rampage came out fast in the second period, with Ben Towner launching the comeback with a power play marker at 2:48, with assists going to the two Tylers, Halliday and Ostrom.

Seven minutes later Hayden Long teamed up with Tyler Halliday and Jared Davis to bring the two teams even 9:46 of the second in a physical middle frame. The first ten minutes of the period give over to a string of penalties and fighting majors that set the blue print for a busy night for officials.

The Rampage took control of the scoreboard early in the third and never looked back, with Tyler Halliday putting Rupert ahead for good at the one minute mark of the period, with Tyler Ostrom picking up the assist. Brayden Horcoff added to the lead four minutes later with Hayden Long providing the helper.

Josh Cook got in on the scoring one minute later, with a power play marker assisted by Kory Movold and Hayden Long.  The final goal on the night wen to Jean-Luc Fournier, who put the sixth Rampage goal on the board, with an assist going to Tyler Halliday, part of a four point night for him.

The Third also saw the carry over of hostilities from the middle period with a number of spearing, slashing  and fighting  penalties assessed as the play got nasty, the majority of the names of note from the Misconduct files belonging to Quensel with Mike Wakita, Nick Tomassetti, Dan Kirkham, Waylon Heureux and Alex Mackenzie representing the Kangaroos on the naughty list, while Jordan Aubree was assessed a misconduct for the Rampage.

The writers cramp would set in for the off ice officials by the middle of period two and in the end would deliver 22 infractions recorded on the box score of the game for 93 minutes in penalty time for the Kangaroos, while the Rampage were assessed 33 minutes of penalty time on 11 infractions.

Saturday night's match up was played in front of crowd of 859 at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre, a gathering that got good value for their money as the Rhinos showed the push back that they will need as the heart of the schedule approaches.

The home ice victory moves the Rampage into fourth place in the CIHL, one point behind the Kangaroos and three head of Terrace.

The Rampage now hit the road for this weekend's work, heading to Kitimat and a match up with the Ice Demons on Saturday.  The Kitimat squad a team which is still seeking their first victory of the season and may be in just a bit of a foul mood as they try to turn around the start to their season.
