Blog Watching: Week ending October 20, 2019
Ferries to the north and ferries to the south and west dominated those stories this week that resonated the most with readers.
The most popular items of our week's work came by way of a string of articles we posted related to a surprise announcement of the return, albeit, on a temporary basis for the Alaska Marine Highway System.
Making for the book end of the list of five on the week, readers also found much to explore from our notes on recently announcement initiative by the provincial government on coastal ferries, with Prince Rupert left of a list of communities where in person consultations will be hosted by the Transportation Minister.
Northern Savings Credit Union featured in two of our top five stories, with readers digging into our notes on the fate of the Dairy Queen building now owned by the Credit Union and one which is currently being gutted to its framing in order to see what may be the future for the building.
The Credit Unions recent personnel shuffle also made for a widely read item on the week.
One final item rounds out the list of five, that coming from the upcoming Nation2Nation forum set for Terrace in the week ahead, our preview of the three day conference attracted a large readership as the week moved forward.
However, the top item of the last seven day brings us to the Fairview waterfront and the plans for two sailings of the MVMalaspina from and to Ketchikan for October and November.
Has Prince Rupert picked up the security tab for two AMHS sailings of October and November? -- Some of the details of the recently announced, if temporary return of AMHS service to Prince Rupert began to filter out by mid week, most of them by way of Alaska as things turned out. With our story of Thursday on reports of Prince Rupert covering off the security requirements as part of the arrangement making for a widely read item. Later in the day, Mayor Lee Brain would confirm those earlier reports noting that it was a solution so far only in place for the two sailings in question. What became a busy week for AMHS reports started one day prior with a statement from the State of Alaska outlining some of the background to this weeks surprise announcement.
