Port's Community Investment Funding is on target for Prince Rupert Rod and Gun Club

The Port of Prince Rupert's Community Investment Fund has helped out
with some renovations for the Prince Rupert Rod and Gun Club

Revitalization of the Prince Rupert Rod and Gun Club was the focus for some investment money from the Prince Rupert Port Authority, which used its Community Investment Fund to help the club out with some recent renovations.

With 29,500 dollars to work with, the Club which was founded on the North Coast in 1940's embarked on an expansion of the Club's facilities and development of a rifle range to enlarge its shooting site to 150 metres. Two additional shooting stations were created as part of the work increasing user capacity from three to five people.

The main building which dates back to 1952 saw updated lighting, wall and ceiling insulation, windows and a high efficiency pellet stove.

The work on the rifle range also created some significant upgrades which will give the Rod and Gun Club additional space to offer not only to their membership. but to be used by local law enforcement personnel who will have additions options for training on the North Coast.

Rod and Gun Club President Bob Bauer welcomed the investment which was celebrated at the Club's Family Fun Day event which was held on Sunday.

“As time goes by, age starts to show and it was time to do a major renovation. With the generosity of the Prince Rupert Port Authority, we were able to renew the shine of the Clubhouse and bring it up to a standard that we can be proud of. With the help of the Community Investment Fund we now have a safer, more sustainable operation.”

The facility which is located on Highway 16 across from Oliver Lake features a membership which has grown to just under 200 active members in recent years. The PRRGC is open to the public and in addition to the active members, over 700 non-members also use the facility on a regular basis.

Education is also a focus for the Club, with the club serving to foster conservation, outdoor recreation and angling skills, as well as the safe use and care of firearms, bows and other tools that are used in outdoor pursuits.

Shaun Stevenson, President and CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority highlighted the opportunity to add to the region's recreational opportunities through the Community Investment Fund.

“We are happy to invest in improvements at the Prince Rupert Rod & Gun Club, as the upgrades to the facility serve a broad group of community members, from outdoor recreation enthusiasts to various organizations who have specific requirements for training. We are proud to support local organizations in their work to enhance recreational opportunities for residents of the North Coast through our Community Investment Fund.”
