District of Port Edward celebrates railway milestone for community

The conclusion of a seven year project to bring an end to railway whistling through the District of Port Edward is being celebrated today, with Port Edward officials sharing word that CN Rail has notified them that whistling cessation will take place this week.

The project which began in 2014, originated through an anti-whistling report by the District of Port Edward, though it faced a few delays owing to expansion of the rail corridor through the Prince Rupert area.

Back on track in recent years the project which involved five rail crossings in the District came together thanks to support from Transport Canada, the Prince Rupert Port Authority and Ridley Terminals  with 1.7 million dollars invested into safety upgrades.

The full scope of the collaboration between the District and CN is put forward through the notice to the public from Port Edward issued today.
