Blog Watching: Week ending August 28, 2022

Health Care tops the list of the most read items from the last seven days, that as MLA Jennifer Rice takes on the discussion over health care in Prince Rupert, the MLA hotsing a public forum on Monday, August 29th at the Lester Centre.

The MLA's offer of a Conversation on Health was the most read item of the week, followed closely by a milestone moment for the Prince Rupert Port Authority.

That came with the official opening of the Fairview-Ridley Island Connector Road, the private transportation corridor that will take much of the heavy truck traffic off the streets of the City.

The Port factored into one other story from our list of the Five Most read, that as City Council once again took up the theme of Port payments to the municipalities of the North Coast, noting of the recent listings of the Payments in lieu of Taxes that the City delivered to Port Edward.

Municipal Politics took another placement in our Five most read items, with the announcement of two more candidates for City Council. One a newcomer, the other an incumbent.

Also of note this week for readers, the City released the list of proposed Property Exemptions for 2023.

The top item of the week however puts the focus on the much discussed topic of Health Care on the North Coast and in Prince Rupert.

North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice to host Town Hall on Health Care Monday, August 29th  --  Prince Rupert and area residents will have a chance to weigh in and ask questions on health care themes  on Monday night as MLA Jennifer Rice hosts a Town Hall Forum at the Lester Centre.. The 'Conversation on Health' will feature a presentation from health officials and a follow up Q and A session.  On Thursday, the MLA confirmed that the August 29th forum would also be live streamed and broadcast on Cable Channel 10.  (posted  August 23, 2022)

Fairview-Ridley Connector corridor gains official opening today -- Delayed a fair bit through our period of COVID, Port officials and invited guests including Federal Minister Harjit Sajjan cut the ribbon on the much anticipated Opening of the Fairview-Ridley Island connector road. The private Port road will remove a large volume of the heavy truck traffic that has transmitted through downtown Prince Rupert to the port.   (posted  August 24, 2022)

City of Prince Rupert releases list of Proposed Permissive Property Tax Exemptions for 2023 -- With the application period ending in July, the City of Prince Rupert has outlined which property owners may receive exemptions on property taxes for the year ahead.    (posted August 25 , 2022) .
 
Andy Chugh to. seek Prince Rupert Council seat -- This week found the first public announcements for candidates for Prince Rupert City Council in this falls municipal election. With student Andy Chugh announcing his candidacy for a council seat.  Later in the week, incumbent councillor Gurvinder Randhawa also confirmed his participation in the council race.  More notes on the 2022 Municipal election campaign can be found from our archive page.  ( posted August 22, 2022)
