Work crews continue to clean up a site along the CN main line near New Hazelton after A CN Coal train bound for Prince Rupert derailed Friday morning near the Highway 16 overpass close to the community.
Reports from the region noted that several of the 27 cars transporting coal to Prince Rupert had lost some of their load along the rail line, there were no reports of injuries and CN has advised that there were no dangerous goods involved in the incident.
CN Officials continue to investigate the nature of the derailment.
No updates related to the work to clear the track, or any impact of service to and from the Port of Prince Rupert have been posted through any of the Railway's information options to this point.
Environmental groups in the region however have raised some concerns over any potential impact of the spill into Mission creek in the area. With the Skeena Watershed Coalition posting photos and outlining their concerns related to the incident through their Facebook page.

This marks the second significant derailment in the Bulkley Valley region in recent weeks, in early December an empty coal train derailed in an area north of Smithers.
Following the December incident, Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen took note of the need for more equipment and training along the Norther rail corridor, observing that traffic levels are set to increase as two LPG Terminal projects move forward in the Prince Rupert area.
