They may have been few in numbers, but those that took to the ice filled the net early and they filled it often on Saturday night as the Prince Rupert Rampage set what they hope will be a offensive tone for the remainder of the CIHL season, taking a 10-3 victory over the hometown Ice Demons at Kitimat's Tamitik Arena.
Playing with a roster of only 11 on the night, the Rampage shook off the long break of the holiday season to put on a scoring display that sets the right pace for the sprint to the CIHL finish line just ahead.
Scoring on a Kitimat Saturday night came from Cody Cringan (3) and Kory Movold (3) with hat tricks for both, while Patrick Robert, Marcus Atchison, Jordan Weir and Jared Meers claimed singles on the way to the 10-3 victory.
The CIHL schedule has but six games left for the regular season and the Rampage are involved with three of the six, all of them home dates at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre as the spring for playoff placement heads towards the final day of the season of January 21st.
First up is a challenge from the Cariboo as the Williams Lake Stampeders come to town this Saturday night with a 7 PM puck drop at the Jim.
One week later, the Rampage put the wrap on the regular season with two games on the schedule, a Saturday night showdown with regional rival Terrace starting at 7 PM.
That is followed by a visit by the Quesnel Kangaroos who come to town for a Sunday afternoon season finale at 1 PM.
The Prince Rupert squad currently sits in Third place with sixteen points in the standings for the five team CIHL, four points behind the Terrace River Kings who have 20 points heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
The Rampage who have seen their usually strong attendance numbers slip significantly this season, will be looking for a return of the faithful for the three game home stand, which will set the table for the CIHL playoff run just over the horizon.
