Prince Rupert's diners will be down one option come Sunday with Cargo set to close its doors at the end of business on Saturday |
The preamble to the countdown was posted by General Manager Dan Hendrickson to the restaurant's Facebook page on Monday evening ... with an invitation for friends and long time customers to drop in for one more feed of their favourites.
The Mariner's Park location had become one of the stars of the city's dining scene over the last five years, the setting making for an enjoyable afternoon, or evening out and the food regularly getting rave reviews.
On a sunny Prince Rupert summer afternoon, with its outdoor patio deck, it was among one of the few locations in town where the natural setting provided for an impressive backdrop to a day of socializing with family or friends.
With the lease up for renewal and ownership looking towards a bit more of a normal life (the restaurant business one of the most commitment heavy occupations that there is) the decision it seems was to put the focus on the personal for a bit and no one will begrudge anyone that decision.
The pending closure of Cargo makes for the latest in the ebb and flow of the local dining scene, with openings and closings continuing to change the dining options for residents of the North Coast, along with percolating rumours of more potential closures or re-locations to come.
Since the word was first shared on Facebook yesterday, those who have had the chance to dine in at Cargo have been offering up their best wishes and comments, you can join in on the salute here.
