City Council Preview: Monday February 10, 2020

The third session for 2020 is looking a little familiar to that of the first of the year, one which didn't task the Council members too much and resulted in a meeting of less than seven minutes by the time they had prepared to turn off the lights for the night.

This evening there are two items on the Agenda, the first a Report from City Planner Zeno Krekic, that is related to a Development Variance Permit for a property on 8th Avenue East.

The other item listed, is a request for letters of support from a number of local organizations who are all seeking funding from the Port of Prince Rupert's Community Investment Fund.

That will be followed by an opportunity for commentary or questions from the City's Councillors,  at which point we will see if the Council members are in a chatty mood on the night, or if the evening makes for another short burst of public governance.

You can review the Full Agenda Packages for the Regular Council Session from the City Website here.

Tonight also features the second Closed Meeting for 2020, with tonight's 5PM session closed to public.

The City citing one section of the Community Charter as to why they will Close the doors tonight.

90.1  (e) the acquisition, disposition or expropriation of land or improvements, if the council considers that disclosure could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality

and  (k) negotiations and related discussions respecting the proposed provision of a municipal service that are at their preliminary stages and that, in the view of the council, could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality if they were held in public;

Last year Prince Rupert City Council hosted 18 such closed sessions.
