There was a bounty of basketball to be found in Prince Rupert this weekend, with both the All Native Basketball Tournament wrapping up on Saturday and the Charles Hays Senior Boys Rainmakers hitting the court for two match ups with fellow Northern AA level ballers from DP Todd in Prince George.
The Central Interior squad was on a bit of a tour of the Northwest, having stopped off in Terrace for a Friday night match with the Caledonia Kermodes.
Saturday they were at the Charles Hays Gym for the first of two on the weekend, the last bit of game time experience for the Senior Rainmakers until this coming weekends Zones.
Saturday the visiting Trojans got off to a quick start, getting the jump of the Rainmakers and making for a twenty one point run before the Senior Boys began to claw back into the match, reversing that bulge in quick order with a 24 point run of their own.
Things returned to a bit more of a steady pace, withe the two teams exchanging scoring opportunities through the remainder of the two game opener, with the Rainmakers taking the Win 77-66.
Sunday the Makers came out on top again with another offensive burst and some strong ball control, the pace of the game providing for some even scoring through all four quarters and delivering a wider margin of victory by games end of 87-64.
The Rainmakers now turn their attention to this weekend, when the Northwest Zones showcase hits the court at the Charles Hays Gym starting Friday.
The full schedule for Zones will be available later in the week.
Should the topped ranked AA Rainmakers prevail in the Northwest, there's a good chance that they may run into the DP Todd squad again in Langley at Provincials, the Trojans are currently a seventh place team in the Provincial rankings, though that could change following their trek down Highway 16 of the weekend.
You can keep up with the themes of the Rainmakers run for another title through their twin twitter feeds.
