Council members will host their first public session since their Town Hall Forum of last Thursday, a session which provided the Council membership with some points to ponder beyond civic interest in the infrastructure program ahead that was the focus of that evening.
The public session For April 8th will open with an opportunity for Public Comment on any item from the Regular Agenda, that opportunity to come at the opening of the Regular session starting at 7 PM session tonight
As for that Session, it's again a fairly light workload for Council on the night. Towards their work some of the items up for review include:
The Consent Agenda includes requests for support for a Grant application for a Curling Rink project as well as what appears to be the City's Final word on the state of Noise surrounding the Wayne Place Seniors residence adjacent to Rupert Square.
Prince Rupert's current Health care challenges are the focus of two correspondences for Council to review, one from BC EHS outlining the additional resources in place in support of the ER closures of recent weeks. The second is a letter to Provincial and Health officials from the Prince Rupert Port Authority highlighting its concern over the state of Emergency Health care in the community and the loss of primary care physicians.
Requests for two Proclamations related to upcoming events round out the Consent Agenda Work.
Council will also receive a report on the Remedial Action Order recently issued towards the old Mohawk station on Second Avenue West, with City staff now having provided a to do list for the owners to complete by the end of May before any further action on the order would be considered.
The Planning Department brings forward a Variance Permit request for a property on Seal Cove Circle.
And the McCarthy GM building returns for some discussion tonight, that as the CFO seeks approval of a resolution to amend the 2024 Five year Financial Plan Bylaw.
That as a result of a significant increase in the cost of preliminary design work at the Portage Avenue building for future use by Civic Operations.
The 290,000 dollars in additional funding from the original estimate to be provided by Legacy Inc Dividend.
Council members also host a Special Session at 5PM, along with a session CLOSED to the Public, the details towards that closure for the public are outlined here.
The Closed session tonight, marks the seventh such session restricted to the public session for 2024.
Monday's Regular Council session starts at 7 PM and can be viewed by way of the Live Feed from the City Website.
The Regular Council session is normally posted to the City's YouTube archive within 24 hours of the session concluding.
