| The reach of smoke from a fire on the city's east side today could be seen from many areas of the community |
Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue crews were called out late Saturday afternoon to a townhome fire on the city's east side, with firefighters and members of the RCMP arriving around 4 PM to a fully involved fire at 11th Avenue East and Immanuel.
Video on Social Media from residents nearby provided some vivid visuals of the fire which was consuming a good portion of the farthest row of homes in the area.

The Thick, Black billowing smoke from the fire could be seen from much of the east side, the fire quickly brought down by the work of the fire fighters.
There were no reports of injuries from the fire which took place at the recently renovated homes.
So far neither Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue or the City's Emergency Services has yet to provide for any details towards the cause of this afternoons fire, or how many residents may now be homeless from the incident.
The online forum at Prince Rupert Community Bulletin Board has seen some residents begin to take up collections of goods for those that may have been impacted by today's fire.

Amazing work by the firemen. Watched with my kids and cannot believe they put the fire out. There was so much fire and smoke.

Indeed, it does seem that it was quickly brought under control ... a strong response to what could have been a much worse situation NCR

DeleteHowever, not sure that a situation that now has seen someone seriously injured is the place for a policy discussion on whether a volunteer or paid Fire service would have handled the situation differently though.
That's a debate for a different storyline which surely will come up again .
So we'll close the comments at this point towards those elements.
From this incident we salute the work of the Fire Hall on First for their quick response to the situation and wish the best for the injured person and those who may have lost their homes on Saturday.
