Prince Rupert Hospital Emergency Department Closure in place tonight from 11PM to 8 AM Monday, April 8th

Another Emergency Department closure for Northern Health's Prince Rupert Regional Hospital has been announced with the Health Authority advising residents that the doors to the ER will close at 11 PM tonight, reopening at 8AM on Monday.

As it was for much of March and earlier this month, the inability of the Health Authority to secure physician coverage is cited as the reason for closure.

The advice from Northern Health is the same as last month's lengthy run of ER Closures.

If you have an emergency: People in Prince Rupert and area who need life-threatening emergency care (i.e. chest pains, difficulty breathing, or severe bleeding) should call 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility. 

Any time services are interrupted, our partners in patient transfer and local health services are notified and signage will be in place at the hospital informing patients to call 9-1-1 for transport.

The advisory was relayed through the Northern Health Social Media Stream.

At last Thursday's Town Hall Forum in Prince Rupert, Mayor Herb Pond advised the public of the schedule ahead for a stakeholders session on Health care, with the first meeting of that group set for tomorrow.

The overnight closure likely to help in bring some focus to their work.
