Road Widening of Bill Murray Drive nears the homestretch

The road widening project along Bill Murray Drive is nearing completion

Work to widen the access road to Rotary Waterfront Park and the Wheelhouse Brewing Company location adjacent to it is moving along at a quick pace now.

The project seemingly in the home stretch with the extra lane located across the CN Rail tracks  and directly in front of the Wheelhouse (or behind depending on your view) set to transform that part of the roadway into what could  be known as an unofficial transit on Wheelhouse Way.

The work on the city street has been taken on by Coast Tsimshian Northern Contractors who have been actively engaged on the site for a number of months now.

The work of today significantly advanced from that which we saw when we last passed by the site in February.

The additional parking space should help to alleviate some of the congestion for the small parking lot adjacent to the Wheelhouse which serves both the popular beverage house and the park.

On those days when the park has many visitors or the loyal  patrons to the Wheelhouse arrive in large volume, the overflow users make use of the unpaved and pot hole laden area just west of Kwinitsa Station.

The City has yet to detail when the widened section of the roadway will be opened and available for those heading to the waterfront.

The work on the road infrastructure is just the start of some big plans for that area, also on the waterfront is the Zoning advisory for the community, located at the Kwinitsa Railway Museum.

The Museum making for a fitting testimony for the city's past connection to rail and the city's ambitions for a new location for the Airport Ferry and additional marine options in the years to come.

Some of those projects related to the Rupert's Landing initiative  can be reviewed through our Overview of the 2030 Presentation from 2019.

  1. Where did the money come for this project? I see we changed the zoning but that should not release funding for a project.
