One person injured and in hospital from Saturday's East Side Fire. One in custody as Prince Rupert RCMP continue investigation

The Prince Rupert Detachment of the RCMP has provided an update on Saturday afternoon's town home fire at 11th Avenue East and Immanuel, disclosing that one person was left with serious injuries as a result of the fire.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. the RCMP, the Prince Rupert Fire and Rescue as well as BC Ambulance Services all responded to a report of an apartment building on fire on 11th Ave E and Immanuel St. 

 Upon arriving on scene frontline members assisted in evacuating the units, while BC Ambulance service provided care, and the Prince Rupert Fire and Rescue went to work battling the blaze. 

 One person was taken to the hospital and is in serious but stable condition. 

At this time the RCMP is investigating the cause of the fire and have one male in custody.

As part of their information release of late Saturday evening, it was noted that the members of the Prince Rupert detachment continue with their investigation. and are seeking the assistance of the public.

"We are asking for anyone with any information or video footage, including ring cameras or dash cameras to come forward and talk to police, the investigation is still in its early stages and no further information will be released at this time" -- Media Relations Constable Brody Hemrich
