Prince Rupert's Airport at Digby Island will be getting some upgrades to equipment, that as the Province of British Columbia provides just over 60,000 dollars towards two services.
25,500 dollars will be going towards a Communications System for Operations and Emergencies, while another 35,000 dollars will be put towards access control and terminal security work
Funding through the provincial BC Air Access Program will also be directed to the Metlaktatla First Nation, which will see 567,000 dollars put towards upgrades to their emergency heliport.
The Funding for the North Coast communities was announced today by North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice
“Here on the North Coast, we require reliable air transit everyday. Whether it is for medical appointments, work or emergencies, investing in these upgrades is great news for everyone along the coast who rely on these services.Although airports are federally regulated, we know support is needed for rural and Indigenous communities. That’s why we are investing in YPR’s security and communications systems and upgrading Metlakatla’s heliport not only to bolster access to healthcare but to catalyze economic growth and connectivity.”
The Funding program has delivered money for improvements across the province, included on the list is 2 million dollars for Terrace for a runway rehabilitation project, along with new lights and signage.
