Kitimat spoils home opener for Rampage

The Kitimat Ice Demons played the role of party poppers on Saturday night, as the visitors offered up an example as to how they have become a CIHL powerhouse for the over 800 always boisterous Rampage fans at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.

The Ice Demons were the guests for the home opener for the Prince Rupert Rampage, kicking off the home sides 2012 home season, a much anticipated return to CIHL hockey in Prince Rupert for this year.

The visitors battled back from a 2 goal deficit to score four unanswered goals in periods two and three, claiming a 5-3 victory over the Prince Rupert Rampage, who returned to the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre for the first time since last year's playoffs.

Due to ice troubles at the Civic Centre earlier this fall, the Rampage played the first five of their CIHL games on the road. Making for a long hard tour of the province before returning to their friendly confines at the Jim Ciccone.

After a scoreless first period of feeling each other out, the Rampage got on the scoreboard in the second period, scoring a flurry of three goals in response to Kitimats' opening salvo four minutes into the period.

Finding the range for the Rampage were Tom Robinson at 6:39, Kory Movald at 11:50 and Sid Spracklin at 14:40 of the middle frame, the surge of goal scoring gave the Civic Centre faithful hope for a home ice victory, however the Ice Demons turned on their offensive game, to take the lead into the final period, never looking back

Kitimat showed why they are among the top of the CIHL standings,  scoring their final four goals spread over the second and third periods, which turned the momentum of the game to their side and secured yet another win for the Western Division leaders.

Keano Wilson took the loss in the Rampage nets, facing 35 shots on the night.

The loss drops the Rampage record to 1 win, 3 losses and an OT shoot out loss, leaving them at the bottom of the standings at the moment in the CIHL West.

Prior to the game, the Rampage announced that Jared Meers would wear the "C" for the rest of the season, named the team captain prior to the puck drop on Saturday night. The team shared the news with their fans on the team's twitter feed.

While they may have lost out on the two points in the standings, the Rampage goal scoring blitz of the second period provided a bonus for the Salvation Army, as part of the Port of Prince Rupert's sponsorship of the team this year, 100 dollars for each Rampage goal was donated to the local charity.

Meaning that Saturday was a 300 dollar night for Salvation Army's social programs in the city.

The Rampage are back on the road on Saturday and Sunday with a road trip taking them to Houston and Smithers.

The next home game is set for Saturday, November 24th when the Rampage return to the Jim  when Williams Lake comes to town, followed by Quesnel on the afternoon of Sunday the 25th.

Those next home games will mark the start of a string of 8 home dates through, November, December and into January.

Rampage gain split in weekend play

The Prince Rupert Rampage picked up their first win of the 2012-13 CIHL season on Friday night as the Rampage topped the Terrace River Kings with a 5-4 shoot out decision at the Terrace Sportsplex.

The Rampage battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the Friday night game, with two regulation time goals from Kory Movald and single markers from Justin Fontaine  and Josh Kierce bringing the Rampage even after sixty minutes.

In the Overtime session, the Rampage relied on Kory Movald and Jared Meers to secure their first win of the season. Keano Wilson gained the Win for the Rampage in the nets facing 34 shots on the night and holding off the River Kings in the Shoot Out.

Saturday provided for another close game for the Rampage, but the trip into Kitimat did not work out quite as well for the visiting squad, though it did take a shoot out for the home Ice Demons to claim the  3-2 victory.

First period goals from Josh Kierce and Kory Movald gave the Rampage the lead heading into the third period, the Ice Demons however pulled even early on in the third period and from the there the two teams battled to a draw leading to the second shoot out session of the weekend for the Rampage.

The shoot out session went four deep with Kory Movald picking up the only marker for the Ramapge, Kitimat claimed victory on their fourth shot of the shoot out, puttng the winning goal behind Keano Wilson.

Wilson made 21 save on 23 shots in regulation time as the game played out, marking the end of the team's month long extended road trip.

The weekend split moves the Rampage into a second place tie with the River Kings in the Western Division.

The Rampage have the week off and next  return to action with their home ice debut on November 10th, when the Kitimat Ice Demons mark the first game of the year at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.

Rampage lose two on road trip east

The road warriors of the Prince Rupert Rampage travelled to the far eastern reaches of the CIHL this weekend, but the trip home came without any points in the CIHL standings as the Rampage dropped both games of their two game road trip.

Saturday night the Rampage were in Lac La Hache, where they held on for the first period, but couldn't  catch the Tomahawks in periods two and three, losing to the host squad 9 to 5.

The Pointstreak home page of the CIHL outlines the game story with a summary of the Saturday action, which saw Josh Kierce pick up his first goal as a Rampage in the first period. Other Rampage markers in the first came from Korey Movold and Jared Meers.

Rupert scored again in the second period when Meers picked up his second goal of the game, the last Rampage goal came in the third when Korey Movold scored unassisted midway through the final period.

Rupert held close in shots, peppering the Lac La Hache goaltender with 30 shots on the night, Colby Hagman faced the Tomahawk onslaught turning aside 30 of the 39 shots.

Lac La Hache took the bulk of the penalties with thirty eight minutes in the box, including a 10 minute miscellaneous misconduct for 10 minutes at the end of the game.

The Rampage were penalized four times for eight minutes on the game.

Sunday's match up took the Rampage into Williams Lake, where the weary Rampage were knocked off by the host Stampeders by a score of 7-1

The Pointstreak website has not been updated from Sunday's action, we'll include the link to the summary to that game when it is available, both summaries from the weekend can be found below.

Rampage drop season opener on the road 6-1 to Kitimat

The Prince Rupert Rampage started their 2012-13 season on Saturday on a losing note with the host Kitimat Ice Demons pouring on the goals for a 6-1 victory, in front of 650 fans at  Kitimat's Tamitik Arena.

The Rampage fell behind early and couldn't pick up the gap as they fell to a 3-1 deficit after the first period, Kitimat added two goals in the second and a final marker in the third to claim victory.

The Rampage were shut out in periods two and three, but remained close in shots on goal but couldn't find the answer in their season debut.

The Ice Demons took advantage of penalties, scoring once on their seven opportunities, the Rampage however could not take advantage of their eight extra man opportunities.

The season opener marks the first of an extended five game road trip for the Rampage.

Owing to the early season difficulties with ice at the Prince Rupert Civic Centre, the Rampage will be road warriors through October and into November.

They next see action on Saturday, October 13 when they travel to Lac La Hache to face the Tomahawks, followed by a Sunday afternoon game on the 14th in Williams Lake.

The snapshot of Saturday's game from the CIHL can be found below.

Prince Rupert Rampage and Salvation Army both big winners from Port sponsorship

The local entry in the Central Interior Hockey League has picked up a major sponsor for the 2012-13 season, as the Port of Prince Rupert signs on as the title sponsor for the Prince Rupert Rampage for this season.

The Port outlined their contribution to the Rampage for this season in a press release on Thursday, October 4th, heralding the impact that the local hockey team has had on the community since their franchise was granted in 2008, bringing Senior Men's hockey back to the Northwest after a lengthy absence.

In addition to their sponsorship of the hockey team for this season, the Port also outlined a project which will see 100 dollars contributed to the Salvation Army for every Rampage goal scored at home this season.

A bit of adde incentive for the home side, which will make the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre a very loud place we imagine should the Rampage find their range on home ice, with the Salvation Army and its programs in Prince Rupert one of the main beneficiaries.

The contributions to the Rampage and the Salvation Army are just the latest in donations to local causes that the Port of Prince Rupert have made in 2012.
