One dead, one injured, one arrested in Terrace incident over weekend

Terrace RCMP responded to a shooting call in the Thornhill area on Saturday afternoon and as the weekend moved forward a manhunt provided for the arrest of a subject on later that evening near Kleanza Creek.

The string of events began on Dobbie Street in Thornhill as a male was shot dead and a woman injured in the Saturday afternoon incident, the male, later identified as 27 year old Eric Cardinal, was declared deceased at the scene. A woman who was also shot, was taken to Mills Memorial Hospital. Her condition was later listed as serious, but not life threatening.

Global News outlines that Mr. Cardinal was known to police and had been featured in an RCMP alert earlier this year.

The shooting launched a large scale search for the shooter included in the response to the shooting was the use of the Northwest Emergency Response Team and an RCMP helicopter.

Like the victim, the alleged suspect, 29 year old Travis Leslie Stephens, was also described as "known to police".

He was discovered hiding down an embankment and apprehended at Kleanza Creek early Saturday evening.

The crime scene on Dobbie was still sealed off by RCMP into Sunday, while the Terrace RCMP and the Major Crime Unit continued on with their investigation and spoke further with witnesses.
