Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is back in the Northwest this week, having spent a couple of days with Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach touring the Terrace area.
A stopover at the Kitsumkalum First Nation gave the NDP leader a glimpse into some of the plans that local leaders have for their territory.
A tour of the Coast Mountain Children Society was one of the stops for the NDP leader, where he and Bachrach heard more about a provincially led program that will create over 100 new childcare spaces in Terrace, something which we noted last month.
While he was in the Terrace area, Mr. Singh and Mr. Bachrach hosted an online Q and A session streamed live from the banks of the Skeena River.
Among some of the themes explored by the two politicians was the recent prorogation of Parliament and how that has impacted on the NDP's plans to keep holding the Trudeau government to account for the next month of suspended proceedings.
Some of the other topics they examined during the near half hour session were the West Coast fishery, forestry, sick leave benefits during the period of COVID, the re-opening of Schools and Federal support to the provinces, equitable and affordable access to the internet and concerns over racial profiling and use of force by police also made for a portion of the discussion.
As well, those taking part in the online session asked for some of the perceptions of Terrace area that the NDP leader has had during his stay
There is no word as to whether Mr. Singh will be visiting other Northwest communities during his stop over in the region.
