More road work underway for Fulton and Sixth as further issues discovered

The Big dig at Fulton and Sixth just got a little wider and a little deeper
as more issues underneath are being examined for the intersection

See update below

The City of Prince Rupert has dug a few more holes on Sixth and Fulton, expanding it seems on the still unfinished project launched earlier this Spring.

In a traffic advisory from the City posted to their Social Media Feed on Thursday, the city relayed some more bad news for motorists, noting that some further issues have been found at the site of the long running repair work.

Work on the Fulton and Sixth location begin April, with the delays since attributed to supply problems related to the COVID-19 virus and its interruption of supply chains.

As a result of today's work at the major intersection, traffic is limited to a westbound direction up towards the hospital, all other roads have detours in place around the construction zone.

The Fulton project is one of a few that have proved to be troublesome for the city this year, with another job at First and McBride still ongoing after a few moths of work getting underway.

Earlier this month we noted that the City of Prince Rupert currently has a Request for Proposals in motion towards the potential used of contractors for infrastructure projects in the city. The deadline for interest for that RFP arrives on September 7th.

The City notes in their update of Thursday that a further advisory on the Fulton situation could be shared today, should they provide for the update, we'll update our notes on the road file here as well.

Update: Friday afternoon, the City provided some further background on the nature of the work ahead for Fulton and Sixth.
