Some recent vandalism of a bench on the Rushbrook Trail that was sponsored by the CHSS GLOW group has brought some comments of support for the community from a pair of elected Prince Rupert officials.

CHSS GLOW is the local SD52 group that supports Gay, Lesbian and Whatever students in the community. The students from the District maintain both the bench on Rushbrook Trail and the Rainbow Bridge by Cowpuccino's

Both Councillor Blair Mirau and Mayor Lee Brain used social media to show their support towards the Charles Hays group and to reinforce a call for inclusiveness in the community, with Mr. Mirau expressing his strong disappointment at the vandalism and noting of how the community has always been one that supports each other.

Mayor Brain echoed some of the sentiment with his own contribution to the discussion on Tuesday

As part of the relay of information on the vandalism, which was removed by some local residents, Mr. Mirau offered up some links for residents of the community to learn more about the RCMP Safe Space initiative, and other provincial resources

As well as to the local Prince Rupert Pride Facebook page, which provides updates on the LGBTQIA community in the community.

Towards support for the GLOW bench and the students, Prince Rupert Pride is inviting area residents to post photos of themselves at the bench using the hastag #loveisloveislove

Neither official indicated if a file had been generated with the Prince Rupert RCMP related to the incident.
