With the City of Prince Rupert reminding residents that use of the popular Rushbrook Trail on the city's east side is limited to those on foot, or their pets with four paws.
The topic came up through an observation from Councillor Nick Adey who asked for some clarification on some of the regulations for use of the trail, noting that he had believed that bicycles and ebikes had been prohibited form the waterfront pathway.
That prohibition was confirmed by City Manager Robert Long, who observed that there was a sign on the trail itself advising of such.
The location of that advisory made for a secondary discussion point, with Councillor Adey observing that perhaps notices for the public could also be posted at both ends of the trail where they would be more helpful towards informing the public.
Just a few days later, the City of Prince Rupert has provided an update from Kaien Trails which maintains the trails, in addition to the reminder of the prohibition on biking they note that they have also replaced signs which have been vandalized along the trail.
The use of the trail also makes for some discussion on the City of Prince Rupert Facebook page which suggests that some RCMP enforcement may be required from Rushbrook to Seal Cove.

There have been Cyclists riding this trail for as long as I can remember. I personally have been riding it for 25 years on and off and long before the trail upgrades , maybe the project designer's might have thought to consider cyclists in there planning .... It would be more fair to say as a rule that cyclists can ride the trail as long as they dismount and walk there bikes , while passing pedestrians , and to exercise just plain caution , and common sense . I have been riding all my life and the bikes these days are so we'll equipped with incredible breaking power disk breaks ect ... And it is easy to stop and dismount within a very short distance ...
