Severe Weather delays Northern Expedition sailing until Monday

Travellers between Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert will be in a holding pattern for another 24 hours, as BC Ferries holds the Northern Expedition in port at Skidegate to wait out severe weather across Hecate Strait.

The Service Notice issued at noon Sunday makes for an extension of the previously delayed departure of the day, pushing the planned crossing on towards Monday, with BC Ferries hoping to make the journey across to Prince Rupert at Noon on Monday.

The revised timetable will see the Northern Expedition arrive in Prince Rupert at 7 PM, with Monday's return trip to Skidegate set to depart at 10 PM, with arrival in Skidegate at 7 AM Tuesday.

Those departure and arrival times are weather dependent and subject to change if conditions warrant.

The sailing delays could have some impact on the All Native Basketball Tournament, with participants and fans from Haida Gwaii making their way to Prince Rupert for the annual week long celebration of basketball and culture.
