Port Edward Fire Department to benefit from Emergency Preparation funding

$25K in Provincial support funding is on the way for
the Port Edward Fire Department

The Port Edward Fire Department is one of a number of Northwest groups set to receive Firefighting funding through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.

The Port Edward Department will receive $25,000 out of the Fund, with North Coast Regional District also to be awarded $6,000 dollars.

The newly created provincial fund of 5 million dollars has so far approved 102 proposals from municipalities and First Nations government across BC.

“Volunteer and composite fire departments are vital public safety partners in B.C.’s local and First Nations communities.  This funding for new equipment and training will support dedicated fire crews at more than 100 of these fire departments as they continue their work to keep communities safe.” -- Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General.

North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice, who is also the Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness also made note of todays announcement.

“It’s great to see so many communities take advantage of this funding. It’s our hope that these funds will help build resiliency across B.C. by ensuring local governments and First Nations have the tools they need to be ready for all hazards.”
