City Council Preview: Monday, May 11, 2020

It could be a light night of work for Prince Rupert's Council members, as they prepare for what may be another Remote call in Council session, with but four items listed on the Agenda for the first public meeting of May.

Two of the four items will see the Council members receiving reports from the Corporate Administrator Rosa Miller, who will be outlining the background to a pair of Development Permit applications.

The other two items listed on the agenda tonight involve a request for support from City Council, the first a request for an endorsement of a letter from the Association of Canadian Cannabis Retailers; the second support for an application by Tourism Prince Rupert for a marketing initiatives program offered by Northern Development Initiative Trust.

One item that may make for a topic from the Mayor on the night, will be today's announcement out of Victoria of 6.5 million dollars in funding for Prince Rupert from the Government towards infrastructure and Capital planning, the second year in a row that the Premier and MLA Jennifer Rice have delivered on funding for the region.

REGULAR SESSION OF CITY COUNCIL

Adoption of Agenda and Past minutes -- Mayor Brain will review the agenda for the evening and Council will adopt the minutes of past meetings.

Reports and Recommendations 

Report from the Corporate Administrator related to a Development Variance Permit Application for a property on Jamaica Avenue (See page  9 of the Agenda)

Report from the Corporate Administrator related to a Development Variance Permit Application for a property on Kaien Road  (See page 20 of the Agenda)

Requests

Request from  the Association of Canadian Cannabis Retailers - Seeking endorsement of Council for a letter to BC Solicitor General Mike Farnworth, seeking modification to Retail Cannabis Regulations in the province. (See page  38 of the Agenda)

Request from  Tourism Prince Rupert -- Seeking support for application to the Marketing Initiatives program offered by NDIT. (See page  41 of the Agenda)

The evening will come to an end with any Additional Items as well as Reports, Questions and Inquiries from Members of Council.

Council members can  take advantage of the period to offer up any items or concerns that they have for consideration on the night.
