The Prince Rupert RCMP have issued a call to the public for help as they try to piece together the events that led to a motorcycle crash Saturday on Highway 16.
In an information release from the Prince Rupert Detachment today, the Mounties outline how an off duty Prince Rupert RCMP officer came across the motorcycle crash on Highway 16 near Kilometer 45.
On Saturday, Drive BC made note of the incident and the closure of the highway, near the Work Channel Road area.
The rider, and lone occupant of the Harley Davidson motorcycle was deceased at the scene. Police spoke with people at the scene, however no one actually witnessed the crash having come upon it after it had happened.
Evidence at the scene suggest that the motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve in the highway and left the roadway. Police believe speed may have been a factor.
The driver died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The investigation is ongoing and police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed, or have information regarding the crash.
Should you have any information related to the incident and have not spoken to the RCMP you are asked to contact the Prince Rupert detachment at 250-627-0700 or at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
