With the Municipal Tax Payment period deadline about to arrive, Corinne Bomben, the City's Financial Officer will provide a tutorial tonight for residents, speaking to the them of the Home Owner Grant and how taxpayers can apply for it.

The visual presentation set for tonight, is part of a wider  information program, with the City's Facebook Page Administrator posting some notes on the theme last week.

Due to reduced contact with front line staff during the pandemic, we are issuing a reminder regarding the need to apply for your Home Owner Grant, which is often something prompted by our Customer Support staff when you pay your taxes.

If you have paid your property taxes online or via cheque in the mailslot, and you live in your home, you must also apply for the Home Owner Grant to receive it, and it must be applied for EVERY YEAR. It also must be applied for if you have paid via your financial institution.

Those that do not submit their Home Owner Grant applications by the deadline are subject to a 10% penalty that unfortunately cannot be waived for legislative reasons. To apply for the homeowner grant, you can drop off the completed form (which is located at the bottom of your property tax notice) in the mailslot at City Hall, or you can apply for it online.

Note that even if you are not able to pay your property tax this year, you must still claim the grant before the due date to reduce the overall amount that is owed.

For those applying for the Grant online, the form can be found here.

The full overview of the process can be explored here.
