An Online Celebration in 2020 for National Indigenous People's Day on Sunday

Like many other events of the last three months, the large community celebration on the Prince Rupert waterfront for National Indigenous Peoples Day has been suspended for a year, as things shift to online venues this year.

And as the summer solstice arrives,  the North Coast is preparing to celebrate tomorrow.

The restrictions are in place as part of the ongoing response to the COVID pandemic and have scuttled many of the larger gathering celebrations that marked the event in the past, but you can still take in a range of options from online sources.

Already Prince Rupert's Schools have done their part, with a range of activities relayed from SD52 over the last few days.

The Prince Rupert Library has been the first to provide for some resources to explore Indigenous themes, making note of their extensive library of Indigenous themes which you can borrow.

The local focus will come with Sunday's online stream from Terrace based CFNR radio, which offers up a day of programming starting at 10AM tomorrow. 

Nationally, more presentations towards Indigenous themes can be reviewed from the CBC and APTN streams.

For those looking to explore just a little bit deeper, the National Film Board has also created an archive of Indigenous film to check out as part of the month dedicated to First Nations film and the day of celebration Sunday.

Something to keep in mind for Monday, as National Indigenous People's Day has fallen on Sunday this year, some offices in the city will be closed for the day.
