YPR's back in business!

From Monday Flight Aware tracked the
first flight to Prince Rupert since March 

The return of Commercial air travel to and from Prince Rupert was marked on Monday as the first Air Canada Jazz flight since March arrived (ahead of schedule) at the Digby Island Airport.

Flight 8280 left Vancouver eleven minutes early and arrived just ahead of the mid afternoon arrival time for the once a day connection between the North Coast and the Lower Mainland.

Monday's flight was the first since Air Canada suspended its service for much of the Northwest on March 26th, leaving the Terrace airport as the only location for arrivals and departures.

As we noted earlier this month, the return of commercial air service at YPR means new COVID protocols are in place, at the airport, on the airport buses and at the downtown YPR shuttle building on Sixth Street.

The Airport Authority also has changed some of the previous protocols on baggage, with the process now a seamless transfer from plane to travel van, with passengers to pick up their belongings at the YPR Shuttle building.

For those concerned about the prospect of wayward bags, YPR notes through their Social media stream that Air Canada representatives will be on hand at the Shuttle building to assist should something have gone astray during the transit out of Vancouver.

Towards celebrating the return of Air Canada service to YPR, the Airport authority and City of Prince Rupert have launched a project to reward those travelling into the Prince Rupert airport with plans for a draw every day in July for gift certificates for local businesses and services.
