Port Edward Annual Report offers snapshot of Priorities and Planning ahead

The 2019 Port Edward Annual report was released on Monday and while much of its focus was on the events of last year, the direction of progress and planning for the years ahead frames much of the document's review.

The 42 page overview takes residents and interested observers through the last twelve months, with the Mayor making note of how much of that period was handled  by District staff without the services of a CAO following the departure  of Bob Payette.

Mayor Knut Bjorndal made note of that transition period, paying tribute to the work of those who shared the load during the search for the new CAO. Noting as well that many of the large scale work such  road remediation had remained on hold during that period.

"Our staff did an outstanding job in filling in while we sought to have our leadership position filled"

Mr. Bjorndal also highlighted a strategic planning session held over two days late in 2019 with the members of the District Council coming forward with their Strategic Plan document which will chart the community's growth.

The staff shortage was resolved with the hiring of new CAO Danielle Myles Wilson who has been rather busy since taking office redirecting some of the District's energies away from the days of planning for a mega project in the form of Pacific NorthWest LNG and to look to diversify the Districts' economic future.

Her contribution to the Report notes of the ongoing planning process and range of studies and Assessments currently in motion towards building the community into the future.

Ms. Myles-Wilson also highlights some of the changes to human resources in the District but for operations positions in Port Edward and through its ownership of the North Pacific Cannery Historical Site.

The latter finding a shift in 2019 as some of the important staffing resources that had been focused on the Historical Site recalled back to the community for other important development projects.

The Annual Report also provides a guide to some of the resources that the District offers to the community as well as the full package of Financial documentation that comes with the yearly publication.
