Lax Kw'alaams moving forward with plans towards new wastewater facility for community

A notice of planned use of Crown Land currently in the comment process at the Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resources makes for a sign that plans are moving forward towards development of a new wastewater facility for the Community of Lax Kw'alams.

The plans for the land use requirement towards development of what would be a near 16 million dollar project are outlined in documentation now available for review on the Provincial MFLNR website. 

With two submissions in place for review noting of the need to decommission an existing outfall line and the creation of a new outfall as part of the new facility project.

As for the sewage treatment plant for the wastewater system, we made note of the Lax Kw'alaams plans last November, wth Mayor Gary Reece and the Lax Kw'alaams Band Council having offered up an update for the community at that time, noting how they had studied a similar facility in the Heiltsuk Nation as part of their planning.

The infrastructure plans can be examined as part of the update for the community from last October.

The planning for the project follows up on the work of former Mayor John Helin's time in office, which outlined the early Stages towards the required improvements back in 2019.

So far, the Lax Kw'alaams Band has not outlined any further details related to the progress for the plans or a timeline towards its development.

Towards the current Land Use applications under consideration, those that may have comments to make related to the Lax Kw'alaams plans for use of the land in question, have until September 8th to deliver them through the comment process provided.
