Port Edward Volunteer Fire/Rescue among those to see some extra funding from province

The District of Port Edward's Volunteer Fire Department will have 30,000 dollars more in approved funding to work with this year, that coming out of a pool of money announced today by the Province for volunteer fire fighting departments across BC.

More than 110 volunteer and composite fire departments throughout B.C. will receive their share of the  $6.3 million for equipment and training to be provided to bolster firefighting response.

The funding was announced today by Bowinn Ma, the Minister of Emergency Management and Climate readiness.

“Many people across the province live in communities with fire services delivered by volunteer or part-volunteer fire departments, and they depend on those fire crews to keep them and their families safe when fires happen. These fire crews have different challenges than most fire departments, and this funding will go a long way by supporting them to purchase new or replacement equipment and deliver training to their volunteers and staff.”

Other volunteer departments in the region that will receive funding include:

Bulkely-Nechako Regional District -- $99,582
Central Coast Regional District -- $59,643
Daajing Giids -- $29,878.15
Fraser Lake -- $30,000
Gransile -- $30,000
Houston -- $26,248.73
Masset -- $19,218.86
New Hazelton -- $25,000
Port Edward -- $30,000
Telkwa -- $30,000
Vanderhoof  -- $29,998

The full list for all communities to receive funding and how it is to be spent can be reviewed here.

The funding was designated as only for volunteer and composite fire departments, those services that are considered professional such as Prince Rupert's Department are not part of this funding program.
