It's the undisputed economic engine for the North Coast and an important partner for communities across the North as they look to expand their own industrial footprints.
And from its work in developing the Prince Rupert Gateway the Prince Rupert Port Authority is now among the organizations listed as one of the Best Employers in British Columbia for 2023.
The salute came from the compilation for 2023 by Mediacorp Canada, which organizes the annual review of which businesses and corporations are striving to make for a connected workplace.
The Review which was released on February 14th is in its 18th year, uses a criteria of eight elements:
(1) Workplace(2) Work Atmosphere & Social
(3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits
4) Vacation & Time Off
(5) Employee Communications
(6) Performance Management
(7) Training & Skills Development
(8) Community Involvement
The list of the 2023 winners is one featuring a number of well known organizations, some which operate in Prince Rupert but aren't based here.
Those include such familiar names as Save on Foods, BC Transit, BC Hydro and McElhanney Ltd., to name a few.
Others such as DP World and the BCMEA, have a head office in the south, but extensive operations here, though the Prince Rupert Port Corporation is the only one among this years selections with a head office in Prince Rupert.
And for the most part, the PRPA along with the University of Northern British Columbia make for just a few of the industries or corporations based outside of the Lower Mainland, or Victoria area.
What put the PRPA into the grouping of the Best in BC included:
It's support towards employee training, paid internships and tuition subsidy program.
The Port's hybrid work program also was of note, it offers a flexible work schedule and shortened weeks.
The PRPA retirement transition program also was recognized as part of the review.
The Full background to the selection related towards the Port
can be reviewed here.
The Port also gained recognition as part of Canada's Best Employers Career Directory, which provides a snapshot for those looking to start a career as to what the Port has to offer, as well as to where they seek out University or College graduates to fill positions within the organization.
The recognition for the Port should serve it well as it continues to work towards recruitment and retention of employees, as well as to offer some recognition for the region and the other industries looking to attract workers to the North Coast.
