Prince Rupert RCMP make arrest in recent McDonald's Robbery

The investigation into the January 29th armed robbery of the 11th Avenue East McDonalds has seen one male brought into custody,  set to face two charges in relation to the mid day incident.

In an Information Release today from the Prince Rupert Detachment the details to the investigation and subsequent charges was outlined.

"On January 29, 2023 just before 1pm, the Prince Rupert RCMP received a call about a man who had just robbed the McDonald's restaurant on 11th Ave E. Police attended shortly after but the suspect had already fled the scene.

Statements from witnesses as well as video surveillance review helped police learn that the suspect entered the restaurant and waited in line to place an order. Once it became his turned to order, the man produced a knife and took money from the register, before running out.

Frontline members, with the assistance of the Prince Rupert General Investigation Section, conducted a thorough investigation which led police to identify the 43-year-old suspect."

He was arrested by police on February 8, 2023 and subsequently charged with Robbery and Disguise with intent to commit and indictable offence.

He remains in-custody at this time and is scheduled to appear in court later next week.

Noticeable for its absence is the name of the alleged offender, which was not listed, the reason of which the local detachment explained through their social media stream.

"We understand the curiosity about the identity of the suspect.

That being said, because there is no investigational need to release his name, is it not our place to do so as a police agency.

Read more about that in our pinned post at the top of our page titled “Why we do what we do”.

That information can be reviewed here.

The RCMP's addendum to the story is making for some lively conversation on their social media platform.

There was no indication if the McDonalds robbery was related to a similar incident earlier in January at the Pa's market on Sixth Avenue West, or to the status of that investigation.
