Prince Rupert RCMP seek public's help on East Side Arson files

A pair of incidents the RCMP have determined have been arsons has the members of the Prince Rupert detachment asking for some help from the public.

The pair of fires, one in January the other in February at one residence on the1600 block of 11th Avenue East have been deemed connected by the Mounties.

In their call for assistance from the public , the RCMP note the following:

  


The first event occurred in the early morning of January 30th, 2023 when Prince Rupert Fire Department was called to a house in the 1600 block of 11th Ave E for what they originally believed to be an electrical fire. 

However, after police reviewed CCTV footage from the surrounding houses they noticed a man wearing all black causing the fire to ignite the side of the house. 



The second event occurred in the early morning of February 10th when the Prince Rupert Fire Department responded to a report of a car on fire in the driveway of the same house from the first report. 

When CCTV footage was reviewed police discovered a man with a similar build and wearing similar clothing was responsible for the car being lit aflame. 

In both events Prince Rupert Fire Department reported that both fires were extinguished quickly and there were no injuries.

 "Thanks to the quick response from our partners in the fire department both incidents were handled quickly and safely. These events appear to be targeted as they occurred at the same address, therefore the threat to the public is low, however, due to the violent nature of these incidents we are looking for any leads that can help lead to an arrest." -- Media Relations Officer Constable Brody Hemrich
