MLA's Week: February 20-23, 2023

It was a short week for the Legislature and its members, Monday being Family Day, the Legislature did not return until Tuesday, with things wrapping up as per the Chamber calendar on Thursday.

The week was dominated by another resignation speech from the Government side of the house and the continued reproach of the NDP government towards their lengthy filibustering of legislation that the opposition members have stated that they agree with.

The Legislature also heard of resignation plans from a government side MLA and former cabinet minister, with Vancouver-Mount Pleasant MLA Melanie Mark delivering aa address that explained why she was stepping out of politics.

For the Northwest MLA's the schedule was a mixed one, with the Skeena MLA in opposition  the one in the region making for the most  participation in the debate or discussion of the Legislature

As for more on the recent week of work from the House, the four days unfolded as follows:

*************************************************************************

On the week, Ms Rice was mentioned once  in the record for the week in the  Legislature from February 21-23.

Though as we outlined on Friday, that sole appearance in the Chamber for the week was more of a silent short than a lengthy feature, with apparent audio issues keeping the MLA from sharing her commentary with the Legislature on the day.

Away from her Legislature tasks, the MLA who is also the Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health shared an advisory for residents towards some challenges facing the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital  Emergency Department this week.

The North Coast MLA is also a member of the Following committees:

For our readers from the Terrace-Kitimat region, Skeena MLA Ellis Ross  was mentioned four times in the record for the week in the Legislature from February 21-23.

The busiest of the Northwest MLA's in the house was once again Skeena's Ellis Ross, he  opened his week on Tuesday with comments related to concerns over the Government's handling of LNG industry approvals and the impacts of such delays on Indigenous communities

Tuesday afternoon the Skeena MLA joined other BC Liberals to again highlight the NDP's ongoing filibuster efforts towards their own legislation.

As we noted at the opening to our piece today. It was a topic that he shared with his constituents through his social media stream on Thursday.

Wednesday the Skeena MLA provided a welcome to the visiting delegation of Mayors from the Northwest and later in comments  in the Chamber spoke of the work of the NWRBA to gain additional financial returns from resource development in the region.

For our readers from the Bulkley Valley area, Stikine MLA Nathan Cullen  was mentioned twice  in the record for the week in the  Legislature from February 21-23.

Mr. Cullen's time in the Legislature was split over two days, he began his commentary on the province's Real Estate bill, one of a number of lengthy NDP reviews for the document on the week. Mr. Cullen's contribution to the discussion came on Tuesday afternoon at 5:15PM

On Wednesday,  the Stikine MLA also joined the Skeena MLA in welcoming guests to the Legislature, noting of the list of Northwest Mayors down for talks, a collective which include Mayor Herb Pond from Prince Rupert.

Mr. Cullen serves as the Government's Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship.
