Snow's a comin' ... Environment Canada upgrades from Weather Statement to Snowfall Warning for Prince Rupert, North Coast

Much of Northern and Central BC has some form of
a Weather Warning in place going into the weekend

Environment Canada made things official just before 5 AM today shifting from yesterday's Special Weather Statement to a more official and a seemingly more confident Snowfall Warning for the North Coast and coastal sections down to the Central Coast.

As it stands at the moment, only Haida Gwaii will be spared from Mother Nature's latest burst of winter with Warnings now in place from Prince Rupert to the Alberta border.

The weather service noting of a frontal system approaching from Alaska that is about to bring 15 to 20 cm of snow by Saturday afternoon

The snow will then become mixed with rain into Saturday evening

The Warnings for the remainder of the Northwest make for a mix of Arctic Air alerts and heavy snowfall as you move along the highway 16 corridor and routes north and south of it.

The full forecast for the weekend and into next week shows clearing skies by Sunday with a mixture of snow or rain in the week to come.

With the heaviest of the snow anticipated for later tonight and much of Saturday, the City of Prince Rupert provided for its own advisory on Thursday afternoon.

Among their notes, a reminder for property owners towards clearing sidewalks, as well as a reminder that the City's bylaw officers will be enforcing the city's snow removal requirements.
