CIHL Divisional playoffs underway this weekend

The road towards the Coy Cup continues for four teams this weekend, as the CIHL's 2023 Divisional playoff round gets underway.

In the East the Nechako North Stars are travelling into Cariboo Country as they prepare to take on the Quesnel Kangaroos, the first game tonight in Vanderhoof, Games Two and Three if necessary to take place at the Quesnel Ice Arena.

Quesnel finished first overall in the Regular season and have a deadly combination of strong offensive play and stingy defence so the Northstar's will have their hands full this weekend.

In the West, the Hazelton Wolverines who dashed the dreams of a playoff run for the Prince Rupert Rampage and their fans last weekend, will continue on with their quest.

With the Wolverines set to take on the Terrace River Kings in the Best of three weekend series.

Game One tonight is in Hazelton, wit the two teams then shifting to Terrace for Game Two and Game Three if necessary.

The Wolverines have been the story of the playoff season so far, punching their ticket to post season play with a play in wild card match up on February 11th when they eliminated Kitimat.

One week later, they were in the role of Giant killer, taking down the high octane offence of the Prince Rupert Rampage in two straight games, the victories making for a much shorter run in playoff time that the Rampage faithful had been hoping for.

The Hazelton- Terrace contest could be pretty physical affair, the Wolverines were frequent visitors to the penalty box in the Rampage series and the River Kings rarely back down from challenges, so the hockey should be entertaining and potentially high scoring before the weekend is over.
