A look at the Digby Tower from the Civic Centre |
What may be the preamble to the Big event, made a debut Friday morning with a few flurries arriving shortly after 9AM the starting gun of sorts for Ministry of Highway contractors and City of Prince Rupert Works Crews to try and get ahead of what may be a significant snowfall by Saturday afternoon.
As we outlined earlier this morning, Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning for the Prince Rupert area with a potential for up to 25 cm to arrive by tomorrow afternoon.
The introduction perhaps to the oncoming weather started to accumulate on city streets as the morning has moved forward.
From the Downtown core to points west and east
the early arrival of snow for the weekend has started
to make some roads slick
Also noted this morning was the advisory from the City towards sidewalk maintenance and some downtown business operators were already on that task clearing the sidewalk areas of their establishments.
Those civic guidelines can be reviewed here.
To keep up with any changes from Environment Canada follow their website here.
Those with travel plans for the weekend, should check with the Drive BC website or Twitter feed for guidance as to any challenges to be found for points east of Prince Rupert.
You can also check in with our list of Highway Cameras across the Northeast to see what's ahead before you head out on the roads.
The BC Highway 16 camera at Kwinitsa along the Skeena |
So far there is not much to see in accumulation along Highway 16 east of Prince Rupert, though a number of the cameras between Prince Rupert and Terrace aren't working at the moment, something not particularly helpful for travellers.
More notes on past weather events can be reviewed here.
