Prince Rupert Council to get update on city's cannabis process tonight

Prince Rupert City council will get an update on where things stand when it comes to the roll out of retail cannabis locations in the city, with two reports up for presentation at this evenings Council session.

The twin reports, compiled by Hans Seidemann, the city's Manager of Community Development will provide an update of sorts on the status of the proposed High Culture Cannabis shop at Five Corners, as well as the BC Liquor Board proposal for a BC Cannabis store adjacent to the city's liquor store on Second Avenue West.

The first will recommend that Council provide a positive recommendation of the High Culture application to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch, something which would demonstrate compliance with the local government referral requirements of the Cannabis Licensing Regulations,

Included in the report is a compilation of comments both for and against the application for a business licence for the retail operation at the Five Corners location.

The second cannabis related report will outline the steps ahead for the proposed BC Cannabis store on Second Avenue West, with the first consultation period having come to an end, with the report noting that no comments related to the application had been received by the city.

The consideration of the application, makes for the early stages of what seems to be a lengthy process of paperwork before the doors seem to open for the still to arrive cannabis retail ventures in the community.

There are three such applications currently in motion for Prince Rupert, High Culture, Clarity Cannabis and BC Cannabis, which you can review from our archive page here.

You can review both reports from the Agenda to this evening's council session starting at page 11.

As they look to review tonight's reports, Council members may have opportunity to ask a few questions, including an update on the timeline towards when the city's residents may actually see the first of the retail locations open for business.
