Terrace is first past the toke line as retail Cannabis store opens

Terrace is home to the first retail Cannabis location in the Northwest
with KJ's Cannabis opening last week

Those that take part in the Weekend exodus for the big box stores and varied shopping options of Terrace now have one more store to add to the shopping list if they are so inclined; with Terrace making for the first community of the Northwest to get retail marijuana to the finish line.

KJ's Best Cannabis opened its doors last week, with "budtenders" taking to their stations to cater to the needs of customers, the store located in the Gobind Mall on Lakelse the retail operation is open daily from 10 AM to 7PM, and 11 AM to 6 PM on Sundays.

A number of other potential retail operations are working their way through the Terrace cannabis regulations, along with the proposed BC Cannabis location which is looking to open for business at the western end of the Skeena Mall.

By March of this year, seven applicants had indicated some interest in opening retail cannabis locations in the Terrace area.

Those looking to open retail operations in Prince Rupert however still find themselves navigating the bureaucratic stream it seems, with City Council recently re-stating the application for Five Corner's The High Culture Shop to the provincial government, with the City required to provide additional information to the province before the application could move forward.

At the June 10th Council session, Councillor Cunningham inquired as to whether this meant further delays for the proponents of the Five Corners' store, while Mayor Brain observed that the need for the City to provide for the restatement for the province was a "hiccup" for the provincial industry.

Earlier this month, Council also granted a business licence for the proposed government Operated BC Cannabis store at the Liquor store location on Second Avenue West.

A Third application for a retail store on Third Avenue West is also somewhere along the application process.
