Spring Forward? Fall Back? Whatever your opinion, the BC government says its time for a time consultation!




John Horgan's summer consultation plans this year will take the pulse of our thoughts on time, the focus that of whether British Columbians wish to retain the current Spring Forward/Fall back model of time keeping, or just stay with Daylight Savings Time year round.

The initiative is very much the Premier's who has spoken to the annual winding of the clocks since taking office two years ago, Mr. Horgan has also made note of proposed legislation in neighbouring states up and down the Pacific coast who all are exploring similar plans.

“As our neighbours in the western United States move toward permanent daylight saving time, it’s a good time to think about what will work best for British Columbia, I invite people to consider our options and take part in an online survey that will help us decide whether to leave things as they are or if it’s time to make a change.

“I know many people will have strong preferences on this complex question, and this is an opportunity to express them and help government decide our next steps. As we monitor what’s happening in other jurisdictions, I look forward to input from British Columbians on how to set our clocks throughout the year.”

For most British Columbians the engagement will be through an online survey (available here) while experts and organizations who may have a more detailed response in mind can submit their thoughts by email.

As part of the consultation, the province notes that the feedback collected will be weighed against decisions adopting by neighbouring jurisdictions, with a final decision expected to be made sometime in the fall of this year.

The survey portion of the consultation will come to an end on July 19th at 4PM
