Seafest parade and Saturday events mean road closures around downtown area tomorrow

The parade route for Seafest Saturday will once again
travel from the Court House  along Second Avenue West
with the turn at Seventh Street to follow along
Third Avenue West back to the Court House

It may require a bit of extra time and some additional navigation to reach your destination tomorrow as residents of Prince Rupert and our guests for the weekend take in the plethora of activities that make for the city's annual showcase event of Seafest.

High among the most popular of the events is the Saturday parade and with that event from 11 AM and into the Noon hour there will be some significant road closures in effect.

Starting at 7AM on Saturday the downtown streets of the city will not be accessible to traffic with the large arterial pathway of McBride closed at Fifth Street.

Second Avenue West will be closed from McBride through to 7th Street for the period leading up to the parade and during the estimated hour and half that it usually takes to travel the downtown route.

An alternative east west detour around the downtown core can be found along Sixth Avenue West.

With the parade participants forming up in the immediate area of the Prince Rupert Court House, many of the streets in that section of the downtown will be closed to vehicular traffic as well.

Options for east west travel around Prince Rupert will be limited
on Saturday morning prior to the 11 AM Seafest parade
Access to the downtown and points west is best found along Sixth West
McBride and Second Avenue West will reopen to traffic at 1 PM

Following the parade, McBride and Second Avenue west will be reopened to traffic, while Third Avenue remains closed for the entire afternoon from McBride through to 7th Street, with the Fulton Street intersection also closed to traffic with detours available at Sixth West.

All feeder streets that run between Second Avenue West and Third Avenue West will also be closed.

With closures in effect from First Street and Seventh Streets for the duration of the downtown festival events.

It should be noted that any vehicles that are parked on those roads after 8 AM will be towed at the owners expense.

On Sunday, vehicle access to the Rotary Waterfrtont Park area will be closed at First Avenue West and Bill Murray Way, with those attending the waterfront events to walk to the event down Bill Murray Way or by way of the city's waterfront walkway from the Northland Cruise Terminal.
